Australian Legends

Lusa saya menerima kartu pos untuk kali keempat dari seorang sahabat Australia saya. Ia membubuhkan tiga carik perangko cantik bertema Australian Legends di punggung kartu pos. Tiga potret perempuan yang menghiasi sisi kanan kartu pos tersebut membuat saya penasaran. Kebetulan sahabat saya juga tidak menceritakan tentang perangko-perangko tersebut, ia bercerita tentang Sidney Opera House yang menjadi potret utama kartu pos. Maka saya pun berniat browsing untuk menepis rasa penasaran.

  Elizabeth Evatt.

"Elizabeth Andreas Evatt, born 11 November 1933, an emiminent Australian reformist, lawyer, and jurist who sat on numerous national tribunals and comissions, was the first Chief Judge of The Family Court of Australia, the first female judge of an Australian federal court, and the first Australian to be elected to the United Nations Human Rights Comittee." []

  Germaine Greer.

"Germaine Greer, born 29 January 1939, is an Australian writer, academic, journalist, and scholar of early modern English literature, and a significant feminist voice of the later 20th century. Greer's ideas have created controversy ever since her book, The Female Eunuch, became an international best-seller in 1970, turning her into a household name and bringing her both adulation and opposition." []

Eva Cox.

"Ms Cox, whose Jewish family fled Hitler's tyranny in Austria and arrived in Australia as a "refugee kid", was an early member of the Woman's Electoral Lobby and involved in setting up the first federally fund after-school centre in 1973. She directed NSW Council for Social Service from 1977-1980 and devised the childcare policy used by the Hawke Government." []

Masih ada satu perangko lagi dari empat perangko seri Australian Legends yang ditebitkan Australian Post. Perangko tersebut bergambar Anne Summers.

Anne Summers.

"Anne Summer is a writer, a journalist and author, whose latest books are The Lost Mother and On Luck. She writes opinion columns for the Sidney Morning Herald and The Sunday Age. Summers was a leader of the generation and the movement that changed Australia for women. Her involvement in the women's movement has earned her community respect and has been honoured with Honorary Doctorates from both Flinders University (1994) and the University of New South Wales." []

Dan ternyata mereka adalah wanita-wanita yang memiliki pengaruh terhadap perkembangan dan sejarah Australia serta dunia. Perangko-perangko itu telah melebarkan ranah pengetahuan saya!
